Markham Exits, Stinson Enters Bellator 26 Qualifier Match-up
A clash featuring Tyler Stinson is on the roll-out at Bellator 26. While Stinson comes in, Rory Markham goes out.
The season-four welterweight-tourney qualifier is airing Thursday at the Kansas City Power & Light District in Missouri. This is where Markham (16-6 MMA, 0-0 BFC) gets disqualified for not obtaining medical clearance. The Miletech Martial Arts member said his extreme weight cut resulted in his fighting with a collapsed lung at UFC 95 where he lost.
Stinson (18-6 MMA, 1-1 BFC), on the other hand, earned a fighting contract after trying out at Bellator earlier this year. He also got in at a Bellator’s season-two welterweight-tourney qualifier, because Sean Pierson was forced to exit due to an injury. The Kansas City native dropped a submission win for now tourney runner-up Dan Hornbuckle. Despite Stinson’s loss, he still managed to impress the boss.
Here is what Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney had to say: “Tyler’s skills and development as a fighter have consistently impressed me. He was preparing for a qualifier scheduled a month from now, but Tyler is always in fighting shape and was totally prepared to take this fight.”
He is slated to meet Steve Carl (10-2 MMA, 1-1 BFC) on August 26, which will be aired on FOX Sports Net TV. The winner will get a slot for the eight-entrant Bellator season-four main tourney, which will roll out early in 2011.View Article Source »
