Strikeforce San Jose will Strike on Oct.9
Strikeforce will return to its home base with the long-rumored San Jose event.
After the debut on Texas, Strikeforce is now on full force for its home base. Officials announced last Saturday that the rumored Oct. 9 event at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., is booked and tickets will be out this week.
Strikeforce event will feature female champion Sarah Kaufman facing Marloes Coenen, veteran Matt Lindland facing up-and-comer Luke Rockhold, and welterweight champion Nick Diaz with an unnamed opponent.
“Strikeforce: San Jose” tickets will be on sale to the public on Wed. Aug.25 at 1 PM. Special pre-sale code will be sent to all “Strikeforce Insider” e-newsletter subscribers that will allow access to tickets on Tuesday, Aug. 24.
For Kaufman (12-0 MMA, 4-0 SF), this will be her debut on Strikeforce’s Arena Series. The 24-year old fighter had been a mainstay at Challenger Series shows even though she earned the title belt February and defending it last July.
Coenen (17-4 MMA, 1-1 SF) became No. 1 contender in July and Miesha Tate, which recently claimed the victory highlight is second on the list. Lindland (22-7 MMA, 1-1 SF) earned his first win under Strikeforce banner with TKO victory over Kevin Casey.
On the other hand, Rockhold, 25 (7-1 MMA, 6-0 SF)is on the go. With six fight win strike which all came on first round stoppage. While Rockhold has been present in Strikeforce’s big events before, he was relegated to the prelim card of the evening fight.
The official statement is still blurred whether the Lindland vs. Rockhold bout will be a part of Strikeforce’s long-rumored middleweight grand prix.
Last but not the least, Diaz (22-7 MMA, 3-0 SF) is also a target for a fight at the main card, though his challenger has apparently not been discussed. It’s still undefined if Diaz will be defending his Strikeforce welterweight belt or not.
Diaz is still undergoing a suspension for his presence in the post-fight brawl at “Strikeforce: Nashville,” but he’s still scheduled at the Oct. 9 show.View Article Source »
