Bears vs Cummings Headlines Bellator 26’s ‘Local Feature’ Bouts
A third-time fighter and a newcomer come from the midwest to lead the group "local feature" fights in this week's Bellator 26, Rudy Bears and Zak Cummings, respectively.
The toe-to-toe encounter of the two fighters reminds us of their February 2008 FM Productions match up. They face each other once again in a rematch on August 26 at the Kansas City Power & Light District in Kansas City, Mo.
Additional contests in the “local feature” fight pitch Kevin Croom vs. Brian Davidson, Brian Imes vs. John Ott and Jeb Chiles vs. Demetrius Richards.
Headlining Bellator 26 is the main fight between Steve Carl and Rory Markham. The main card broadcasts on FOX Sports Net.
Bears, who has a record of 11-5 (MMA) and 1-1 (BFC), has been fighting around the regional circuit since his career started in 2007. His debut for Strikeforce in a 2009 November Challenger Series saw him lose to Tyron Woodley. Another defeat came after, back in April, as he suffered from a knockout caused by Brent Weedman. He turned things around when he scored a submission win from Brian Green at Bellator 22 in June.
On the other hand, Cummings is slated to fight under the Bellator banner for the first time. The 10-2 MMA record-holder made noise when he won via a split decision over UFC veteran Terry Martin in February 2009. Two consecutive losses followed thereafter–one to current Strikeforce title contender Tim Kennedy, and another to Elvis Mutapcic in a Midwest Cage Championships fight.
Their first encounter saw Bears submitting in the third round to Cummings.View Article Source »
