Werdum: On the Bench Until January 2011
Heavyweight fighter Fabricio Werdum taking a break until January 2011.
“The date is really to be determined because Fabricio is not going to fight until the beginning of next year, so he’s going to be sidelined for the next five months,” Coker said.
Fabricio Werdum with a 14-4-1 MMA and 3-0 SF said that he is taking a break with the rest of 2010 after the much needed surgery on his elbow.
The fighter had set aside the surgery for the past two years but was worried it might affect future fights so he obliged to have it done.
His manager Richard Wilner said that the surgery prompted the layoff, though he informed MMAFighting that he doesn’t have to be sliced.
Werdum made a record when he submitted Russian Fedor Emelianenko in 69 secs during “Strikeforce and M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Werdum” last June. It was the third victory of the heavyweight star since he signed the promo following the UFC release in 2008.
His manager said that Werdum is open for a rematch against Emelianenko or a bout with Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem whom he defeated way back May 2006 in the now deceased PRIDE banner.
For the time being, the Brazilian fighter is taking it easy. He just celebrated his 33rd birthday and has done several training seminars around the globe.View Article Source »
